Prepare for your next interview with our comprehensive guide to the questions you will definitely be asked.
Whether it's your first interview or your fiftieth, preparation is what separates candidates who get offers from those who don't. Here are the 50 most common interview questions — and how to answer them.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it professional and structured: present role/background → key achievements → why you're here today. 2 minutes maximum.
2. Why do you want to work here?
Research the company thoroughly. Mention specific things: their products, culture, mission, recent news, or growth trajectory. Never say "for the money."
3. What are your greatest strengths?
Pick 2–3 strengths that are directly relevant to the job. Back each one with a specific example.
4. What is your greatest weakness?
Choose a real weakness but one you're actively working on. Explain what you're doing to improve. Never say "I work too hard."
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Show ambition but keep it realistic and relevant to the company. "I'd love to be leading a team in this area" is better than "running my own business."
For these questions, always structure your answer: Situation → Task → Action → Result.
6. Tell me about a time you handled a difficult situation.
7. Describe a time you worked well under pressure.
8. Give an example of when you showed leadership.
9. Tell me about a time you failed and what you learned.
10. Describe a time you had to work with a difficult colleague.
11. What relevant experience do you have?
12. Why should we hire you?
13. What makes you unique?
14. What are your salary expectations?
15. Are you comfortable with [specific skill/software]?
16. Do you have any questions for us?
Always have 3–4 questions prepared. Ask about the team, the challenges of the role, what success looks like, and next steps.
